Shaq’s Son, Shaqir O’Neal, Agrees to Play Basketball at an HBCU

Shaqir O’Neal, the youngest son of NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal, has announced that he will be attending Texas Southern University (TSU) – an HBCU in Houston, Texas. By doing so, he joins Master P’s son, Hercy Miller, and the sons of Deion Sanders who have also committed to supporting HBCUs instead of other colleges and universities.

During a recent interview, he commented, “I just wanted to change the narrative of culture and do something new. A lot of people are going to follow me. You can expect a lot of buckets. I’m trying to get to the [NBA].”

Shaqir also says that he is following the lead of his brother, Shareef, who also plays basketball for Louisiana State University, an HBCU located in Baton Rouge.
